All 160 Bundesland Questions in the Einbürgerungstest

In the Einbürgerungstest, 3 out of 33 questions come from your Bundesland (federal state). That may sound like a small number, but it accounts for almost 10% of your total score. The good news: Bundesland questions are often easier than the general questions and can earn you easy points if you spend a little time preparing.

How do the Bundesland questions work?

The BAMF question catalog contains a total of 160 Bundesland questions; exactly 10 per state. When you register for the test, you indicate which state you live in. From those 10 questions, 3 are randomly selected for your exam.

This means you don't have to learn all 160 questions; just the 10 questions for your state. That's manageable and can be done in half an hour.

What topics are covered?

The Bundesland questions always revolve around the same topic areas. If you know these five categories, you're well prepared:

• State capital: What is the capital of your Bundesland?
• Coat of arms: Which coat of arms belongs to your Bundesland? (with image)
• Minister-President: Who is the current head of government?

Why are Bundesland questions so important?

Many participants focus only on the 303 general questions and completely forget the Bundesland questions. That's a mistake. Here's the math:

• You need 17 out of 33 correct answers to pass (for Einbürgerung)
• 3 questions come from your Bundesland
• If you get all 3 Bundesland questions right, you only need 14 out of 30 on the general questions

These are easy points you shouldn't miss. The Bundesland questions are manageable, concrete, and easy to learn.

How to study Bundesland questions effectively

Learning the Bundesland questions isn't hard. Here's a simple plan:
